Ecological Risk Assessment
Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) has long been a leader in the development of tools and guidance for conducting ecological risk assessments at hazardous-waste sites. However, ORNL also has been applying the principles and practices of ecological risk assessment to nonchemical stressors and to environmental management issues other than those typically associated with hazardous-waste sites. The Ecological Risk Analysis Web site contains information and resources on a variety of topics related to the growing field of ecological risk assessment. That information is organized into the following topical areas:
- Contaminated Sites and the associated ecological risks
- Petroleum-Contaminated Sites and the associated environmental risks
- Radionuclides and the associated ecological risks
- Net Environmental Benefit Assessment (NEBA)
- Military Training and Testing activities and the associated environmental risks
- Air Pollutants and their environmental fate and effects
- Wastewater Treatment Risks for on-site treatment systems
- Biological Uptake of chemicals by plants and animals
These groupings reflect the broad array of environmental problems and issues to which ORNL has been applying the principles and practices of environmental risk assessment.
